Hello Temescalian Families,

We made it through the heat!  Your kids were troopers, and we modified our lessons when everyone started to melt.  Playing Spritz, Spritz, Spray (think Duck, Duck, Goose, but with water) and a spontaneous GoNoodle session put smiles on their hot faces!

By now you have probably spent some time checking out the Friday Folder.   The kids really enjoy looking through their finished work and seeing their accomplishments.  We look forward to supporting the kids while they strive towards meeting their goals.  It was impressive to see many kids focus on a goal that really stretched them.

Math highlights:  Dreambox, Magic Squares (see below), loops and groups (a multiplication game), the subtraction table, graphing survey data, and number corner.

Sweaty and hot Wednesday afternoon!

Science highlights:  Guided drawing of the process of transpiration,  learning about chromatography using markers and leaves, and planting sprouts in the garden beds.

Writer’s workshop highlights:  A writing project called “The Best Part of Me,”  reviewing similes and metaphors, learning to Stop, Think and Jot during Reader’s Workshop, and beginning cursive handwriting!

Social and emotional learning:  Continuing work to understand the concept of consent.  More comics to come as students finish up the project.

And finally, having fun on the playground with our friends!

Happy 8th birthday to our hampster-loving, doodle-drawing, animal print wearing friend!  May your year be filled with happiness and joy.

In community,

Emily and Jackie
