Hello families,

We had another fantastic week of learning and growing together in Temescal Creek. Thankfulness expository writing continued, students learned about composing a paragraph and using transition/linking words.  In Math, we worked on memorizing multiplication facts, solving word problems, and looking for patterns during Number Corner.  In Rocket Write, we have been giving prompts for students to write their opinion about a certain question.  Finally, we are almost at the end of our chapter book read aloud, and are aiming to finish before winter break. We have lots on the agenda for the coming weeks!

Friday is Grandparent’s and Special Friends Day. Since the GF performance is a special event, we’d like students to consider this when they dress for the day. They might dress up a bit more than they do for a typical school day.  During the morning, we will sing and welcome visitors to our classroom.

Our trip to the Oakland Museum was a highlight of the week.  We all learned about the history of the Ohlone people and California prior to statehood.  To find out what your child learned, you could ask them about: clapper sticks, regalia, trading goods, or the little baby.  A big shout out to the parents who came along for the journey:  Neal, Oliver, Gazelle, Wendy, David, and Katie, we couldn’t have done it without you!

After several weeks of prep and missed classes, we got back to work on our photosynthesis garden.  This group really loves to get into the dirt and tend to the garden beds.  After a process of voting, our class landed on using a peace symbol as our installation message.  The message will (hopefully) grow out of the chia seeds that we planted.  Take a peek at the garden bed behind Temescal Creek at drop off this week.  Thank you Julianne, for sharing your amazing ideas with all of us!

If students were not having their turn in the garden, they were in the second round of the seed dispersal challenge.    Ask your student how many centimeters their team’s design went!

We rounded out Friday with everyone’s favorite: Choice Time.  Kapla block creations are getting even more creative, Go Noodle movement games had kids dancing, and a new improv game had everyone in stitches!

Enjoy your week!

Emily and Jackie
