Season’s Greetings~

This was my last full week in the classroom.  After winter break, I will help Jackie and Lisa with the transition for the first week back.  I’ll stay on as a sub for TBS, so we’ll most likely meet again.  Third grade has been a joyful experience for me as a teacher.  Thank you for sharing your kiddos with me.  They are a fun group; full of energy, curiosity, and joy for learning.   I feel lucky to have stepped into this role and appreciative of the trust you gave me.  Jackie was a powerful, dependable and supportive force in making sure that these months went smoothly and I cannot thank her enough.  The world is lucky to gain a teacher with her skillset and dedication.

Thank you so much for the cards, gifts, treats and well wishes.  I hope you all have a happy break.  See you in 2020!

With gratitude,

Emily

Our week started with an informative and interactive presentation about Ohlone life.  Our presenter is named Keith and he came with lots of interesting stories and information that he shared with the class. We learned about hunting, traditional clothing, fire making, and games.  We learned about the strength of the tule plant and how it was used to make boats, shelter, and ropes.  We learned how soaproot was used to make brushes, catch fish, and wash clothes and bodies. Students used rocks to make face paint, practiced using a pump drill and chanted while we used a mortar and pestle to grind acorns into flour.  The afternoon was a lot of fun and gave depth to our understanding of the Ohlone.  We hope your kids brought some stories home!

We always enjoy having families in our classroom and it was great to catch up before the year comes to an end.  Your kids worked very hard with dedication and curiosity. Check backpacks for all of the projects that we sent home.
