Attendance: We would like for your grown-ups to email Jackie and I every day with your answer to the day’s joke or riddle.

Today’s attendance riddle is:
Yesterday’s answer: Hoot-ini! (sounds like Houdini, a famous magician), but many answers that you came up with also worked!

We will have daily assignments posted here at 9am. You should be doing as much of the work as you can. Jackie and I will be available to answer questions through email every day during our “office hours” at 11am-12pm and 2:30pm-3:30pm.
If you are working with Katherine, do her assignments first. Also, we’ll put a time for each activity. Put on a timer for the time indicated for that subject. Once that timer dings, move on to the next work!
Remember to have body breaks! GoNoodle has great body breaks that are for a specific amount of time.

We’d love for you to share what you are up to! Let us know of any links/resources that you find interesting, and we’ll add it to our list of things! Also, email us pictures of what you’re up to, and a caption, and we’ll create a gallery of these pictures to post on Friday. (You’ll have to share the pictures before 8:30am on Friday for it to be included on the Friday gallery!)

We recognize that Distance Learning is new for everyone, and it can take some time getting used to. Please let us know if there is too much or too little work and if something is challenging for you. We want you all to be successful in Distance Learning, and we’re here to help!

Announcements:

Friday Morning Meeting using Zoom!

  • We’d like to have another Friday Morning Meeting on Friday! We’ll try to use Zoom this time so look for an email with a link to join the meeting! This platform is a little different in that you can see everyone at the same time. We’re going to ask again that you start muted and then unmute yourself when it’s your turn. Let’s share the same thing as last Friday: What was a rose (something you enjoyed this week), thorn (something that was hard for you this week), and bud (something you’re looking forward to next week) for you? One last thing. We will record the meeting so that if someone wasn’t able to make the meeting, they’d be able to catch up later.

Things that are due by this Friday (Please take a picture of all of these assignments and email them all at once to Jackie and me):

  • Book group questions  *If you opted to do a video or voice memo, then send that over in the email.
  • How did you get your name?

As part of our Morning Meeting routine at school, we reveal a new card each day. Temescalians share what they notice and any patterns they observe as we progress through the month. Describe today’s card and let your grownup know if you see any observations!

Reader’s Workshop (60 minutes):
Book Groups

  • We’ll ask you to do some reading at home and to answer questions about what you’ve read. Look for specific instructions for your book, which came home with you in your folder. There are four book groups:

Writer’s Workshop (60 min):

  • Continue research note-taking (Don’t be limited by the guiding questions. Include as much information as you can about your plant or animal of focus. You may need your grown-ups to help you find other resources if necessary.)
  • Highlight a fun fact or two that you might want to highlight for each section.
  • Begin drawing pictures for your book.
    • If you are focusing on an animal, you need to have one picture for appearance/habitat, food, offspring. If you are focusing on a plant, you need one picture for appearance, habitat, and life cycle – seed, plant, blossom, seed pod on the plant.
    • These images should be realistic, take up most of the space in the template, and include a caption in a complete sentence of what is in the picture. You can try tracing images by holding the original up to a window and tracing the image on a blank sheet of paper you have placed over the original image. You should use pencil and colored pencil to draw and color in these images. We find that colored pencil often allows for more detail than other mediums.)

  • Pg. 35 Letter m (You may need to count the “bump” in the letter to make sure you formed an “m”, and be careful of connections!)
  • Finish any past pages you haven’t done yet

Happy Wednesday to you all. Please watch and follow along with the videos linked in the lesson below and enjoy yourselves. If you are able to share the activities with a family member you can be their music teachers for the day!
Also, take a look at the Berkeley Music Circus webpage. I will be teaching a different song each week and inviting you to join neighbors and others in the community in stepping outside on Wednesday at noon to sing the song of the week. This week’s song is Take Me Out To The Ballgame.
